#75AñosHonrandoTuNombre

After winning La Liga in 2021, Los Colchoneros wanted to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the club’s current name, reimagining the first red and white kit design under Club Atlético de Madrid in 1947. Also known as “el equipo del pueblo / the team of the people” this club prides itself on sacrifice, hard work, and sheer determination, inspired by its blue collar roots.

The club’s current official name of Club Atlético de Madrid, kicked off a golden era of success and self identity for the club. I wanted to express the effort and humanistic touch that makes this club so special to its loyal fans and extremely hard working staff. A big, but subtle “A” for Atleti was part of the consideration for the treatment applied to their identity of red and white stripes. The jersey was made from recycled plastic bottles.

For the away kit we honor the club’s 1996 double, when they won the Copa del Rey and La Liga with a dynamic and fast interpretation of the strong upward angle in their crest. I maintained the same hand drawn aesthetic as the home kit to further enhance the storytelling elements of humanistically crafted touch.

For the prematch top, I was inspired by a triton and the club’s celebrations on top of the statue of Neptune in the city of Madrid.
